I did something stupid tonight. I ate a massive meal and now I’m really uncomfortably full. It was stupid because now I’ve triggered my POTS and my body is short circuiting.
My blood is pooling in my stomach, my heart is racing, I’m having palpitations – and worst of all, my body is overheating.
People with ME and/or POTS have body’s that struggle with temperature regulation – and I am no exception. Overheating has been known to have me on the verge of vomiting in the past. I really can’t handle it.
But one thing I’ve learned is that ice pack placement is crucial. Using the logic that in winter, heat escapes quickest from our heads, core and feet … I therefore take the opposite approach in summer of applying ice packs to these same three areas when I’m overheating and need cooling down QUICKLY.
And it WORKS.
I realise most people probably already know this … but just in case anyone out there doesn’t, then honestly, try it. Icing the top of my head and my stomach in particular – followed by my feet, can quickly turn a very distressing experience into a much more manageable one 👍
What tips do you have for cooling down quick?
