Simple pleasures and chronic illness:
In the same way our bodies need food for survival, simple pleasures are essential for the wellbeing of our souls.
Simple pleasures are the little things that make our hearts happy. For example, it might be a bubble bath, lighting a scented candle, listening to some guilty pleasure music (Roxette anyone?) – or maybe asking your mum to bake you your favourite childhood cake.
Even a new pair of pyjamas or slippers can give us a boost. Or simply stroking a pet, without any mental or physical distractions. Just being present; taking time to breathe and ‘be’, without concern or expectation.
It is so important to take time out to enjoy simple pleasures. Life with chronic illness is hard – so we must grant ourselves permission to enjoy the things that comfort our hearts.
What are your favourite simple pleasures?
PS – please excuse my almost-grown-out nail varnish. I don’t use precious energy removing it over winter, knowing it’ll grow out itself just in time for summer again 😂
